DESCRIPTION:This workshop is intended to present some aspects of Medaka fis
h research to the wider fish models community. We have several projects su
pported by two key grants that make use of Medaka’s high tolerance of in
breeding to perform gene by environment research across the Medaka Inbred
Kiyosu-Karlsruhe (MIKK) panel. The workshop will run in a virtual format i
ncluding a mixture of formal research talks\, lightning talks by students
and post-docs\, and social activities aimed to increase awareness and coll
aboration across the model fish community. Through these two days of discu
ssions\, we aim to present details and foster collaborative links on the u
se of key resources\, such as the MIKK panel\, for gene by environment pro
jects in the community.\n\n**Virtual workshop**\n\nParticipants will atten
d virtual formal presentations\, and lightning talks from students and pos
t-docs\, followed by moderated Q&amp\;A sessions. Practical experience and
workshop-style sessions will be intermixed with virtual social events via
GatherTown. Live sessions will be delivered using Zoom with additional su
pport and asynchronous communication via Slack.\n\nParticipants will need
to be available between the hours of 09:00 – 17:30 BST each day of the w
orkshop. Moderators will be available to assist\, answer questions\, and p
rovide further explanations during these times.
