DESCRIPTION:*This course will be streamed only for the registered participa
nts. Registered participants will receive specific information directly fr
om the respective course’s organizers.* \n\n## Overview\nRecent advances
in omics technologies allow us to grasp the complexity of the immune syst
em\, but data analysis and interpretation remain highly challenging. Data
scientists require a basic understanding of immunology and associated meth
ods to collaborate effectively and efficiently in immunological research p
rojects. \n\nIn this one-day course we aim to close knowledge gaps and pro
mote a general understanding of the immune system. We will focus on immune
cells and their functions\, as well as on methods commonly applied in imm
unology that require bioinformatic expertise. Moreover\, we will present o
ngoing projects and highlight common challenges encountered by bioinformat
icians and researchers in the field of immunology. \n\n This course will *
*not** go into detail of the analysis of the different datasets\, but rath
er provides an overview over the bioinformatics methods used in immunology
. \n## Audience\nThis course is addressed to life scientists and bioinfo
rmaticians\, from academia or industry\, with little to no knowledge in
immunology who are or will be working with immunological datasets. \n\n\
n## Learning outcomes\nAt the end of the course\, the participants are exp
ected to:\n* list the different cell types of the immune system and their
function. \n\n* appreciate the complexity of the immune system and overla
ps with other systems. \n\n* plan an immunological experiment / judge the
quality of the experimental setup. \n\n* explain how to analyze different
types of data\, what the data looks like\, and what pitfalls can occur dur
 ing analysis. \n\n## Prerequisites\n##### Knowledge / competencies\nThis c
ourse is designed for beginners in R. The competences and knowledge levels
required correspond to those taught in courses such as: First Steps with
R in Life Sciences or Introduction to statistics with R. \n\nEvaluate you
 r R skills with the following [self-assessment](https://docs.google.com/fo
 rms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIyeuabd_ZOWXgI1MWHapmaOMu20L9ESkLDZiWnpmkpujyOg/viewform)
.\n\n##### Technical\nYou are required to bring your own laptop with a Wi-
Fi connection\, and the following software installed PRIOR to the course:
R\, R Studio. A list of packages will be provided in due time.\n\n## Sched

academics are **100 CHF** and **500 CHF** for for-profit companies.\n\nYo
u will be informed by email of your registration confirmation. Upon recept
ion of the confirmation email\, participants will be asked to confirm atte
ndance by paying the fees within 5 days.\n\nDeadline for free-of-charge ca
ncellation is set to *10/10/2025*. Cancellation after this date will not b
e reimbursed. Please note that participation in SIB courses is subject to
 our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditio

ll start at 9:00 and end around 17:30. \n\nPrecise information will be pro
vided to the participants on due time. \n\n\n## Additional information\nCo
ordination: Valeria Di Cola\, SIB Training Group.\n\nWe will recommend 0.
