DESCRIPTION:Note: This iteration has been organised as a special event for
MRC-CBU members via UIS. It is not open for direct booking. If you are at
 MRC-CBU\, please [register here](http://bioinfotraining.bio.cam.ac.uk/book
 ing-form/?event-id=55743670&amp\;course-title=Working%20on%20HPC%20cluster
 s%20in-person%20MRC-CBU) using your institutional email.\n \n \n\n\n\n
Knowing how to use High Performance Computing (HPC) systems is crucial for
fields such as bioinformatics\, big data analysis\, image processing\, ma
chine learning\, parallel task execution\, and other high-throughput appli
cations.\n\nIn this introductory course\, you will learn the fundamentals
of HPC\, including what it is and how to effectively utilise it. We will c
over best practices for working with HPC systems\, explain the roles of "l
ogin" and "compute" nodes\, outline the typical filesystem organization on
HPC clusters\, and cover job scheduling with the widely-used SLURM schedu
ler.\n\nThis hands-on workshop is designed to be accessible to researchers
from various backgrounds\, providing numerous opportunities to practice a
nd apply the skills you acquire.\n\nAs an optional session for those inter
ested\, we will also introduce the (free) HPC facilities available at Camb
ridge University (the course is not otherwise Cambridge-specific).\n\n\nIf
you do not have a University of Cambridge [Raven account](https://legacy.
raven.cam.ac.uk/auth/account/) please book or register your interest [here
 ](http://bioinfotraining.bio.cam.ac.uk/booking-form/?event-id=5743670&amp\
 ;course-title=Working%20on%20HPC%20clusters%20in-person).\nIf for any reas
on the above links do not work\, please email [Research Informatics Traini
 ng Team](https://training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/info/contact) with deta
ils of your course enquiry.\n\nAdditional information\n\n* ♿ The trainin
g room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair
or level access. \n* Our courses are only free for registered University o
f Cambridge students. All other participants will be charged according to
 our [charging policy](http://www.training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/info/c
harging).\n* Attendance will be taken on all courses and a charge is appli
ed for non-attendance. After you have booked a place\, if you are unable t
o attend any of the live sessions\, please email the [Research Informatics
  Training Team](https://training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/info/contact).\n
 * Further details regarding eligibility criteria are available [here](http
 ://www.training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/info/eligibility).\n* Guidance on
visiting Cambridge and finding accommodation is available [here](https://
