DESCRIPTION:The rise of big data has made it essential to be able to analys
e and perform experiments on large datasets in a portable and reproducible
manner. Nextflow is a popular bioinformatics workflow orchestrator that m
akes it easy to run data-intensive computational pipelines. It enables sca
lable and reproducible scientific workflows using software containers on a
ny infrastructure. It allows the adaptation of workflows written in most l
anguages and provides the ability to customise and optimise workflows for
different computational environments\, types and sizes of data.\n\nThis wo
rkshop will put you on the path to writing your own reproducible and scala
ble scientific workflows using Nextflow. You will learn how to use core Ne
xtflow components to build\, run and troubleshoot a scalable multi-step wo
rkflow.\n\n**Learning outcomes:**\n\nBy the end of the workshop you should
be able to:\n\n* Describe and utlise core Nextflow components sufficient
to build a simple multi-step workflow \n* Describe next-step concepts such
as operations and channels \n* Launch a Nextflow workflow locally \n* Fin
d and interpret outputs and log files generated by Nextflow \n* Troublesho
ot basic issues \n* Develop a scalable workflow that processes multiple sa
mples and incorporates advanced features\n* Assess the effectiveness of a
workflow in handling multiple samples in parallel execution.\n\n**Lead Tra
 iners:**\n\nDr Chris Hakkaart\, Developer Advocate\, Seqera Labs.\n\nFred
Jaya\, Senior Bioinformatician (Australian BioCommons)\, Sydney Informatic
s Hub\, University of Sydney.\n\nDr Georgie Samaha - Product Owner of the
Australian BioCommons BioCLI Project and Bioinformatics Group Lead at the
Sydney Informatics Hub\, The University of Sydney. \n\n**Date/Time**: 24 -
  25 September 2024\, 2 - 5 pm AEST/ 1:30 - 4:30pm ACST / 12 - 3 pm AWST\n\
n**Location: ** Online\n\n**Format:**\n\nThis online workshop will take pl
ace over two 3 hour sessions. You must attend both sessions in order to ge
t the most out of the workshop. Expert trainers will introduce new topics
and guide you through hands-on activities to help you put your new skills
into action. \n\n**Who the workshop is for:**\n\nThis is an intermediate-a
dvanced workshop for people developing reproducible bioinformatics workflo
ws.\n\n_Prerequisites_\n\n* You must be associated with an Australian orga
nisation for your application to be considered\n* Command line / linux exp
erience is essential. The workshop will be conducted in a Unix environment
 \n* Experience developing reproducible workflows (eg. bash\, CWL\, WDL\, o
r Snakemake) \n* Experience with Github and a Github account \n\n**How to
apply:**\n\nThis workshop is free but participation is subject to applicat
ion with selection. \n\nApplications close at **11:59pm AEST\, Tuesday 10
September 2024**.\n\nApplications will be reviewed by the organising commi
ttee and all applicants will be informed of the status of their applicatio
 n (successful\, waiting list\, unsuccessful). Successful applicants will b
e provided with a Zoom meeting link closer to the date. More information o
n the selection process is provided in our[ Advice on applying for Austral
 ian BioCommons workshops.](https://www.biocommons.org.au/workshop-applicat
 ions)\n\n**[Apply here](https://hello-nextflow.eventbrite.com.au/)**\n\n_T
his workshop is presented by[ Australian BioCommons](https://www.biocommon
s.org.au/)\, the Sydney Informatics Hub and Seqera with the assistance of
a network of facilitators from the national[ Bioinformatics Training Coope
 rative](https://www.biocommons.org.au/training-cooperative)._\n\n_This eve
nt is part of a series of[ bioinformatics training events](https://www.bio
commons.org.au/events). If you'd like to hear when registrations open for
 other events\, please[ subscribe](https://www.biocommons.org.au/subscribe)
