DESCRIPTION:[Galaxy](https://usegalaxy.org.au/) is a web-based platform tha
t lets you conduct accessible\, reproducible\, and transparent computation
al biological research. Widely used by researchers world wide\, Galaxy giv
es you access to 1000s of popular tools for analysis and processing of bio
logical data. It is perfect for working with a wide range of big and small
  datasets including genome assembly\, annotation\, epigenetics\, metabolom
 ics\, metagenomics\, proteomics\, statistics\, transcriptomics\, variant a
nalysis and visualisation.\n\nThis workshop provides an introduction to us
ing Galaxy and available tools. Using an example dataset\, you’ll practi
ce uploading data\, choosing and running tools\, and viewing the results.
We’ll share our top tips for managing your experiments and speeding up y
our analysis with workflows.\n\nThe material covered in this workshop is f
reely available through the [Galaxy Training Network](https://training.gal
 axyproject.org/training-material/topics/introduction/tutorials/galaxy-intr
o-101-everyone/tutorial.html).\n\n**Lead Trainers**: Dr Gareth Price\, Gal
 axy Australia.\n\n**Date/Time**: 21 August 2024\, 1- 4 pm AEST/12:30 - 3:
 30 pm ACST/11 - 2 pm AWST \n\n**Location**: Online\n\n**Format**:\n\nThis
hands on workshop will take place online. Expert trainers provide an overv
iew of the Galaxy platform and how to use it for data analysis. Hands-on a
ctivities are included to help you put your new skills into action.\n\n**L
earning outcomes**:\n\nBy the end of this workshop you should be able to:\
n* Identify the key features of the Galaxy website: Tools\, Histories and
the Centre Panel\n* Upload data into Galaxy from your computer or a public
website\n* Organise your data using tags\n* Select and run tools\n* Explo
re the results of your analysis\n* Create a workflow that can be used to r
epeat your analysis\n* Identify sources of support and further training\n\
n**Who the workshop is for:**\n\nThis workshop is for Australian life scie
nce researchers and bioinformaticians. It is a beginners workshop for peop
le with no prior knowledge of Galaxy. It’s suitable for researchers with
data to analyse or bioinformaticians who will be providing support to Gal
axy users. No programming experience is required.\n\nYou must be associate
d with an Australian organisation for your application to be considered.\n
\n**How to apply:**\n\nThis workshop is free but participation is subject
to application with selection. \n\nApplications close at **11:59pm AEST\,
7 August 2024**.\n\nApplications will be reviewed by the organising commit
tee and all applicants will be informed of the status of their application
(successful\, waiting list\, unsuccessful). Successful applicants will be
provided with a Zoom meeting link closer to the date. More information on
the selection process is provided in our [Advice on applying for Australi
 an BioCommons workshops.](https://www.biocommons.org.au/workshop-applicati
 ons)\n\n**[Apply here](https://galaxy-intro-2024.eventbrite.com.au/)**\n\n
_This workshop is presented by the [Australian BioCommons](https://www.bio
commons.org.au/) and the Galaxy Australia team with the assistance of a ne
twork of facilitators from the national [Bioinformatics Training Cooperati
 ve](https://www.biocommons.org.au/training-cooperative)._\n\n_This event i
s part of a series of [bioinformatics training events](https://www.biocomm
ons.org.au/events). If you'd like to hear when registrations open for othe
 r events\, please [subscribe](https://www.biocommons.org.au/subscribe) to
