DESCRIPTION:RNA-Seq is a popular method for measuring differential gene exp
ression. This hands-on workshop introduces the concepts of RNA-Seq analysi
s\, from data preparation through to statistical testing for differential
gene expression. You’ll learn how to use popular tools and workflows to
analyse the data\, produce graphical summaries and identify differentially
expressed genes.\n\nThe workshop will focus on the use of[ Galaxy](https:
 //usegalaxy.org.au/)\, a web-based platform for accessible\, reproducible\
, and transparent computational biological research. Widely used by resear
chers world wide\, Galaxy gives you access to 1000’s of popular tools fo
r analysis and processing of biological data. Galaxy Australia is a fully
subsidised service provided by Australian BioCommons. \n\n**Learning outco
mes:**\n\nBy the end of the workshop you should be able to:\n\n* Perform Q
C evaluation and filtering on next-generation sequencing data\n* Use tools
in Galaxy to identify differentially expressed genes from RNA-Seq data\n\
n**Format:**\n\nThis online workshop will take place over two four-hour se
ssions. You must attend both sessions in order to get the most out of the
workshop. Expert trainers will introduce new topics and guide you through
hands-on activities to help you put your new skills into action.\n\n**Lead
  Trainer:**\n\nMike Thang\, Galaxy Australia\n**Date/Time**:\n\n10 &amp\;
 11 September 2024\, 1 - 5 pm AEST/12:30 - 4:30 pm ACST/11 am - 3 pm AWST \
n\n**Who the workshop is for:**\n\nThis workshop is for Australian researc
hers and life scientists who will use RNA-seq for differential gene expres
sion as part of their projects. \n\n_Prerequisites_\n\n* You must be asso
ciated with an Australian organisation for your application to be consider
ed.\n* Some familiarity with Galaxy is encouraged. We recommend watching
this[ brief introduction to Galaxy Australia](https://youtu.be/i8ZnK8i8zRE
) and working through the[ Galaxy Basics for Everyone tutorial](https://tr
 aining.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/introduction/tutorials/g
alaxy-intro-101-everyone/tutorial.html) before joining the workshop. Alter
natively you can join our[ introductory workshop on 21 August](https://www
 .biocommons.org.au/events/galaxy-intro-2024).\n\n**How to apply:**\n\nThis
workshop is free but participation is subject to application with selecti
 on. \n\nApplications close at **11:59pm AEST\, 27 August 2024**.\n\nApplic
ations will be reviewed by the organising committee and all applicants wil
l be informed of the status of their application (successful\, waiting lis
t\, unsuccessful). Successful applicants will be provided with a Zoom meet
ing link closer to the date. More information on the selection process is
provided in our[ Advice on applying for Australian BioCommons workshops.](

 e[ Australian BioCommons](https://www.biocommons.org.au/) and[ QCIF](https
://www.qcif.edu.au/) with the assistance of a network of facilitators from
  the national[ Bioinformatics Training Cooperative](https://www.biocommons
