DESCRIPTION:An introduction to RNA-seq analysis using the Galaxy Australia
web platform\n\n**About this workshop**\n\nRNA-seq is a popular method for
simultaneously measuring and comparing the expression of tens of thousand
s of genes in multiple samples.\n\nThere are many steps involved in analys
ing RNA-Seq data. The analysis begins with sequencing reads (FASTQ files).
These are usually aligned to a reference genome. The number of reads mapp
ed to each gene can then be counted. This results in a table of counts\, w
hich is what we perform statistical analyses on to determine differentiall
y expressed genes and pathways.\n\nThis practical workshop provides a hand
s-on introduction to RNA-seq analysis from reads to counts\, to differenti
al expression. The workshop makes use of Galaxy\, an online platform for b
iological research that allows people to use computational data analysis t
ools and workflows without the need for programming experience.\n\nThe wor
kshop materials are based on the following Galaxy training workshops:\n\n-
  [RNA-seq reads to counts](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-mat
 erial/topics/transcriptomics/tutorials/rna-seq-counts-to-genes/tutorial.ht
 ml)\n\n- [RNA-seq counts to genes](https://training.galaxyproject.org/trai
 ning-material/topics/transcriptomics/tutorials/rna-seq-reads-to-counts/tut
orial.html)\n\n**Who the workshop is for**\n\nResearchers who have\, or wi
ll soon acquire\, RNA-seq short read data that they need to analyse themse
lves. No prior experience with RNA-seq analysis is required.\n\nThe worksh
op requires you to be familiar with using and navigating Galaxy Australia.
\n\nIf you are new to the Galaxy platform (an online platform for computat
ional analysis) we recommend that you work through the Galaxy 101 For Ever
yone tutorial in advance of the workshop.\n\n**Date/Time: 23 - 24 February
  2:00 - 5:00 pm AEDT**\n\n**How to apply**\n\nThe workshop is free but due
to anticipated high demand\, participation is subject to application with
selection. Places are strictly limited to 30 participants.\n\nIneligible
or incomplete applications will not be considered. For your application to
be considered you must:\n\n- Have an Australian institutional email addre
 ss\n\n- Have\, or will soon acquire\, RNA-seq data\n\n- Complete the appli
cation form\n\nApplications will be reviewed by the organising committee a
nd all applicants will be informed of the status of their application (suc
 cessful\, waiting list\, unsuccessful) by Tuesday 16 February 2021.\n\nPle
ase complete the application form if you are interested in attending this
workshop. Applications close 5pm AEDT Friday 5 February 2021.\n\n**[Apply
 here](https://biocommons-rnaseq.eventbrite.com.au/)**\n\nThe workshop is p
resented by the [Australian Biocommons](https://www.biocommons.org.au/) an
 d [Melbourne Bioinformatics](https://www.melbournebioinformatics.org.au/)
with the assistance of a network of Facilitators from around Australia. \n
\nThis event is part of a series of [bioinformatics training events](https

open for other events\, please [subscribe to Australian Biocommons](https
