Our goal is to help learners understand how repository metadata can be made interoperable and accessible beyond the local repository. The session will cover interoperability within a domain, mappings across metadata formats, metadata harvesting and dissemination, and integration with broader services such as OpenAIRE.
Success means that learners can identify appropriate ways to expose metadata from their repository, understand how metadata is harvested and reused, and evaluate how local metadata decisions affect external discovery and interoperability.
The session will focus not only on which protocols and technologies are used, but also on the problems they address, the decisions behind their selection, and the trade-offs involved.

Prerequisites:
Hard requirement: access to a repository, or a representative collection of datasets, in which data is stored in a reasonably structured format.
Soft requirements: basic familiarity with metadata formats, repository architecture, APIs, and common approaches to exposing or exchanging metadata. Participation in the preceding session on harmonising domain-specific data and metadata would be useful.
