Bioinformatics is an increasingly important skill for biological scientists. Many bioinformatic tools can only be run on Unix based operating systems. This course aims to introduce you to Linux and is aimed at beginners and novices to the command line.

Places are restricted to UK-based researchers and only 30 places are available so please only register if you intend on attending.

The online workshop will be held over one day on Tuesday 8th October 2024, 10am-4pm, with registration opening at 9.30am.

The deadline to register is Monday 23 September, 2 weeks before the course. You will hear later that week whether you have been invited and will need to confirm your attendance.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the course learners will be able to:

  • Navigate & manipulate directories in the Linux environment.
  • List and view the contents of directories.
  • Carry out a variety of commands with files including printing them to the terminal.
  • Utilise the text editor nano create, edit, and save files.
  • Understand the structure of fastq files.
