Software Carpentry @ EPCC
Date: 3 - 4 December 2013
A Software Carpentry boot camp is intended to help scientists and engineers become more productive by teaching software development skills that enable more to be done, in less time, and with less pain. Over two days we will cover: using version control to manage and share information; using Python for scientific programming; how (and how much) to test programs; and, documentation and debugging.
For this boot camp, we expect attendees to have some experience of writing code and be familiar with conditionals, loops, arrays and functions. Attendees will also be expected also be comfortable with using the bash shell. Attendees will be asked to complete a short pre-assessment as part of the registration process so that instruction can be tailored to their needs and skills.
Software Carpentry's teaching is hands-on, so attendees will be required to bring their own laptops. We will provide instructions on setting up the required software well in advance of the boot camp.
The boot camp is free to attend and coffee and lunches will be provided on both days.
