Biomedical research ethics
Date: 8 May 2025 @ 09:00 - 17:00
Language of instruction: English
During this training, different aspects of ‘responsible research’ will be discussed.Bioethics is one of the core aspects of responsible research. It is a very prominent issue in the biomedical areas of life sciences research. For instance, in research involving primary human materials, in clinical trials, or in the use of animals for scientific research. What are the main ethical issues here? How do we deal with them? What is the role of ethical review boards in this area, and how do they function? What about animal research? How do you apply the three R’s (replacement, reduction, and refinement) in animal research? Also, the ‘broader societal impact of biotech and life sciences research’ will be dealt with. Contested topics, such as e.g. embryo research and the worldwide debate on the public availability of human sequence data, will be discussed. For more general training on research ethics, we refer you to the e-learning Mind the Gap.
